Last blog post showed the importance of having a strategy and a clear roadmap to follow when beginning a Tableau, or any, IT project. Once we have a clear Analytics Strategy, along with the Executive Advocacy and Project Teams clearly defined, a project can move into the Agility branch of Tableau Blueprint. This branch focuses on the Deployment, Monitoring and Maintenance of a new software/tool, and specifically with Tableau, how an organization can seamlessly integrate it within the current processes used.
Deployment
A successful Tableau deployment is critical to achieve the goals and metrics an organization identified during its Discovery process. One could argue that the Deployment phase of Tableau Blueprint is the most important, as this step in the Agility branch encompasses most of the technical aspects in rolling out a new platform. Monitoring
Proper monitoring of a new software is critical if an organization wants successful adoption amongst its users. Without adequate monitoring, a deployment could have insufficient resources and support, failing to grow Tableau across the organization, and fail the users that have begun to rely on the performance of the platform. Monitoring is not just to find things that go wrong; seeing that the platform is meeting the constant evolution of business needs is paramount. Maintenance
As use of Tableau grows across an organization, regular maintenance of critical steps will need to occur at regular, predictable intervals. Activities like daily environment backups, to monthly log file cleanups, will be critical in ensuring the performance of Tableau Server and the other platforms its integrated with stays in peak condition. This Maintenance should be regular, and all users should be notified of any upcoming maintenance which may affect them. A successful software deployment may seem daunting, and it takes a fully invested, cross-functional team to achieve it.
