On-Prem to EPM Cloud in 2.5 Months
From automating business processes and forecasting payroll expenses, to dynamically updating reports that meet OMB codes, Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) tools help organizations across several aspects of planning and budgeting. As a firm with decades of combined experience deploying and maintaining Federal EPM and budget management tools, we make it a top priority to stay up to date on the latest trends in technology and share them with the EPM community. During the 2019 Oracle Federal EPM Customer Meeting, we shared a customer success story on how we helped the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) migrate from Oracle Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.4 to Oracle’s Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service. Utilizing two full-time resources, our team was able to complete the migration in just two-and-a-half months. Today, we are operating entirely in Oracle Cloud and saving our client over 40% compared to previous infrastructure and licensing costs.
The CFTC Story
After setting some context for the migration, our team walked the audience through the major technical and functional items that made the move to the cloud successful. The migration consolidated four mature and complex Oracle EPM Hyperion On-Prem applications including metadata, data, user interface artifacts, security, reports, and automated ETL processes into a single, efficient Oracle EPM Cloud solution. This solution consolidation enabled the CFTC to require only a single cloud production application/instance which resulted in large savings on licensing costs. Some key considerations that aided our delivery are provided below:
Key Technical Tips:
- Working with entities across an organization takes time. Be prepared to work with security and compliance groups far in advance (e.g. Authority To Operate [ATO] process).
- Design automated extract, transform, load (ETL) processes to repeatedly and reliably perform data and metadata synchronization and migration tasks.
- Consider design changes and consolidations that can make your EPM Cloud experience better for users or reduce licensing costs.
